HEATCON® COMPOSITE TRAINING OPENS ITS NEW TRAINING FACILITY IN MANILA, PHILIPPINES.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HEATCON® Composite Training has officially opened its new training facility in Manila, Philippines. This new training facility is a state of the art purpose built campus, and is the newest addition to the HEATCON® family of companies, the recognized worldwide leader in composite repair Equipment and Training. With training facilities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and now the Philippines, HEATCON® Composite Training is a world-class organization that delivers world-class training.
HEATCON® Composite Training (Philippines) Inc. was established in order to offer quality training to cover damage assessment and repair techniques for the composite structures being used on the new generation aircraft of today.
Commencing mid 2007, one-week courses will be offered, with a tailored curriculum to suit students of various experience and competency levels. These courses will be run by fully qualified instructors, in a purpose built facility designed to international standards, situated on Roxas Boulevard, in Manila; conveniently located close to the airport, restaurants and hotels.
Latest technology equipment and materials, as found in major repair stations around the world, will be used in the practical course work and therefore students will have little difficulty in utilizing their newly acquired skills in the aviation industry.
It is understood that currently this is the only establishment offering such training in Asia and on completion, depending on the particular course taken, the student should be competent in all aspects of composite repair and specifically capable of:
Understanding the theory, terminology and materials used in the repair process
Identifying types of composite materials & applications on commercial aircraft
Manufacturing and repairing a honeycomb composite sandwich panel
Inspecting a damaged panel to determine the total area of delamination
Completing a vacuum bag lay-up including placement of heater blanket & T/C's
Operating a Hot Bonder and understanding the principals of heat management, in order to fully cure the replacement repair materials
Correctly storing, monitoring and completing documentation with regard to critical materials storage
Determining the ply orientation used in the manufacture of a damaged panel & understanding the importance of using the correct orientation in the repair process
Finding & identifying damage tolerance limits as outlined in various SRM's
For Immediate Release (Seattle, WA) HEATCON® Inc., and it's subsidiaries HEATCON® Composite Systems - Seattle and HEATCON® Composite Systems - Europe today announced that it has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification from BSI, Inc., a quality management systems registrar.
The ISO 9000:2000, an internationally recognized quality management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is a key element for conducting business on a global basis. To be certified to the standard, companies must implement a quality management system (QMS) embracing the activities of the company from staff training to taking the instruction from the customer, the design and development of products, the purchasing of materials and services and the delivery of the products and services. This is done using Plan-Do-Check-Act principles and Process Management, demonstrating steps taken to provide customers the services pledged by HEATCON®. Certification to ISO 9001:2000 reinforces to customers through an independent third-party, that HEATCON® operates in accordance with the standard.
"HEATCON® has always been committed to providing the highest levels of service", stated Howard Banasky, HEATCON's® CEO and Chairman of the Board. "We are proud to be certified to ISO 9001:2000. This demonstrates that our focus remains on quality, world-class performance, and continuously monitoring our business operations to ensure that we deliver on the promises we make to our customers, employees and vendors."
HEATCON® began its registration process in 2004. As part of the ISO 9001 process, BSI performed on-site assessments, examined HEATCON's® documented procedures, and audited its overall operations. To determine continued compliance with ISO 9001:2000, BSI will periodically conduct routine surveillance audits of HEATCON's® business operations.
"For a company that began its implementation mid 2004, developing a quality management system for three companies on two continents was an incredible undertaking," stated Martin Dunn, HEATCON's® Quality Manager. "HEATCON® employees worked hard to document their processes, while other employees performed internal audits to ensure conformance. We are very proud to have gained certification."

FAA Center of Excellence will help build safe and efficient 7E7
WASHINGTON, D.C.. - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will announce today that the University of Washington successfully landed the FAA's first composites research center, according to U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA). The FAA will create the new Center of Excellence (CoE) to focus on advanced materials in commercial airplanes. The CoE is a consortium of business, academic, and government interests that will coordinate research efforts to encourage the broader use of advanced structural materials, including composites and new aluminum alloys, in future aircraft such as the Boeing 7E7.
The FAA intends to invest between $300,000 and $500,000 in the first year and a minimum of $300,000 per year for the next two years of the COE, with additional funding to come through public and private sector sponsors. Cantwell secured $500,000 for the Center of Excellence of Advanced Materials in the Fiscal Year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations bill. This funding will be matched by industry and academic partners - totaling up to $1 million in annual research funding.
